Stein Meets Malliavin in Normal Approximation

چکیده
Stein’s method is a method of probability approximation which hinges on the solution of a functional equation. For normal approximation, the functional equation is a first-order differential equation. Malliavin calculus is an infinite-dimensional differential calculus whose operators act on functionals of general Gaussian processes. Nourdin and Peccati (Probab. Theory Relat. Fields 145(1–2), 75–118, 2009) established a fundamental connection between Stein’s method for normal approximation and Malliavin calculus through integration by parts. This connection is exploited to obtain error bounds in total variation in central limit theorems for functionals of general Gaussian processes. Of particular interest is the fourth moment theoremwhich provides error bounds of the order √ E(F 4 n )− 3 in the central limit theorem for elements {Fn}n≥1 of Wiener chaos of any fixed order such that E(F 2 n ) = 1. This paper is an exposition of the work of Nourdin and Peccati with a brief introduction to Stein’s method andMalliavin calculus. It is based on a lecture delivered at the Annual Meeting of the Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics in July 2014.

Conditional Stein approximation for Itô and Skorohod integrals
We derive conditional Edgeworth-type expansions for Skorohod and Itô integrals with respect to Brownian motion, based on cumulant operators defined by the Malliavin calculus. As a consequence we obtain conditional Stein approximation bounds for multiple stochastic integrals and quadratic Brownian functionals.
متن کاملSteins method, Malliavin calculus and infinite-dimensional Gaussian analysis
This expository paper is a companion of the four one-hour tutorial lectures given in the occasion of the special month Progress in Steins Method, held at the University of Singapore in January 2009. We will explain how one can combine Steins method with Malliavin calculus, in order to obtain explicit bounds in the normal and Gamma approximation of functionals of in nite-dimensional Gaussian ...

We derive Edgeworth-type expansions for Skorohod and Itô integrals with respect to Brownian motion, based on cumulant operators defined by the Malliavin calculus. As a consequence we obtain Stein approximation bounds for stochastic integrals, which apply to SDE solutions and to multiple stochastic integrals.
متن کاملGaussian approximation of functionals: Malliavin calculus and Stein’s method
Combining Malliavin calculus and Stein’s method has recently lead to a new framework for normal and for chi-square approximation, and for second-order Poincaré inequalities. Applications include functionals of Gaussian random fields as well as functionals of infinite Poisson and Rademacher sequences. Here we present the framework and an extension which leads to invariance principles for multili...
متن کاملThird cumulant Stein approximation for Poisson stochastic integrals
We derive Edgeworth-type expansions for Poisson stochastic integrals, based on cumulant operators defined by the Malliavin calculus. As a consequence we obtain Stein approximation bounds for stochastic integrals, which are based on third cumulants instead of the L3 norm term found in the literature. The use of the third cumulant results into a convergence rate faster than the classical Berry-Es...
